Mammoet Training Center Mammoet Training Center

Mammoet continuously invests in the training and development of all its employees. The hub of this activity is the Mammoet Training Center. All Mammoet employees take a turn, usually several times during their career, at updating their knowledge and their skills to keep them up-to-date. Mammoet prefers to do this internally, because the world’s largest specialist in heavy lifting and transport has all the necessary knowledge and experience in-house, including in the form of trainers who know all the ins and outs.

To get the best out of people

The training center aims to turn out people as positive and optimistic skilled workers who know what Mammoet stands for and what they need to pay attention to in order to carry out a contract safely and professionally.

In order to train all employees worldwide, Mammoet has opened training centers in the Netherlands, Malaysia, Canada and England. A fifth center is planned in the USA. The Mammoet Training Center in the Netherlands is the largest and is now in its eighth year. During that time the number of trainees each year has risen from about 75 to 1,000. Seventy percent of them work for Mammoet, thirty percent come from external companies who are grateful for the opportunity to make use of the high quality and broad range of courses on offer.

External companies are normally crane companies and sub-contractors with whom we work together on projects. They also need training and development, but mostly don’t have their own training centers. By training their people, we can also help these businesses to keep up with developments.

Stringent customer demands

Keeping up-to-date is also required by the market. Particularly in the petrochemical industry, stringent demands are placed on suppliers and most of the training courses are geared towards this sector. Employees who are assigned to work in the petrochemical sector generally have to hold a functional certificate which has to be renewed regularly through further training courses. As well as petrochemicals, many training courses are geared towards the construction industry.

In all training, safety is the most important topic on the agenda, but other subjects such as health, environment and quality are also dealt with. Because Mammoet strives for a greater degree of professionalism, a lot of attention is paid to improving trainees’ personal skills. These ‘soft skills’ are important for completing jobs correctly, for working as a team and when dealing with customers and third parties.

Expanding range of courses offered

The Mammoet Training Center offers a growing range of courses for Mammoet employees and employees of partner companies. At present around fifteen different courses are offered. The training has a strongly practical orientation. Most courses are aimed at safe handling and operation of various types of cranes, machines and equipment, particularly in the petrochemical industry. As well as teaching expert skills and safety, the training courses devote time to the development of personal skills.

The Mammoet Training Center is always actively developing courses which relate to different types of work. At the moment training courses are running on Leadership in the Field and for Inspector of hoisting and lifting equipment.
